SPRINGFIELD, Ill. – The Health Care Council of Illinois (HCCI) today named former State Representative LaToya Greenwood as Senior Advisor. Greenwood brings a distinguished record of public service, leadership, and community advocacy that will strengthen HCCI’s mission of advancing quality care in assisted living and skilled nursing communities throughout Illinois.

A lifelong resident of East St. Louis, Greenwood served in the Illinois House of Representatives, where she championed legislation focused on social justice, equity, economic growth, education funding, reproductive health, and access to healthcare. As a member of the House Budget team, she secured key funding for the Metro East and, in the 102nd General Assembly, was appointed by Speaker Emanuel “Chris” Welch as Majority Conference Chair. She also led efforts to expand healthcare access as Chair of the House Healthcare Availability and Access Committee.

“LaToya’s leadership, dedication, and proven track record of advocacy will be invaluable to HCCI,” said Matt Pickering, Executive Director of the Health Care Council of Illinois. “We are honored to welcome her to our team as we work together to advance long-term care and continue advocating for the residents who call these communities home.”

Greenwood added, “I am excited to be joining the leading and largest long-term care association in Illinois. HCCI has an important mission, and I am proud to become one of their advocates. It will allow me to continue the work that I started in the Illinois General Assembly preserving and expanding access to quality health care.”

Greenwood holds a bachelor’s degree in criminal justice from Michigan State University and a master’s degree in public administration and policy from Southern Illinois University Edwardsville.
